How tracking works on each store
| Store | How the link is tagged | Where you see results |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play | UTM values go inside the referrer parameter | Play Console › Statistics, broken down by UTM source and campaign |
| App Store | pt (your provider token) and ct (campaign, up to 40 characters) | App Store Connect › App Analytics › Sources › Campaigns |
| Steam | Standard utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign on the store URL | Steamworks › UTM Analytics |
| Website | Standard UTM parameters | Google Analytics or any analytics tool |
Tips for indie devs
Use one link per place you post. A link in your YouTube description and a link in a Reddit post should not be the same, or you will never know which one worked. Keep names lowercase with dashes. "TikTok" and "tiktok" show up as two different sources.
Put the content name on links you give to creators, like creator-name. When a streamer covers your game you will see exactly how many store visits came from them, which helps when deciding who to send keys to next time.
